Chiz Dakin is a writer and image maker (both still and moving, ie photography and video) specialising in the outdoors world.

Chiz Dakin started out as a professional photographer, these days her images may be still or moving and writing may perhaps have taken over from images in paying her bills.

She writes regularly for Trail Magazine (walking routes) and occasionally for other magazines, mostly on an outdoors or travel theme, sometimes about photography or video. She also reviews outdoor gear.

She has taught Ed Byrne photography (TGO: Ed Byrne tries Landscape Photography, Feb2012) and her work has appeared on the front cover of magazines including TGO.

She has four published books to her name, two on cycling, one on photography (co-authored with Jon Sparks) and one on video (for photographers making the transition from still to moving images).

  • Cycling in the Peak District (Cicerone Press)
  • Outdoor Photography (Cicerone Press)
  • Understanding HD Video (Ammonite Press)
  • Cycling in the Cotswolds (Cicerone Press)

She also has a self-published book on a month-long adventure where she travelled half-way around Antarctica on an ice-breaker at Blurb (Southern Xposure).

The kind of commissions she really likes:

Writing - online or in print. Also as guest or ghost blogger. Producing copy for local organisations (eg "walking and cycling routes around..." or "what to do around..." leaflets). Subjects include:

  • Walking/cycling routes
  • Outdoors themes or equipment (including camping and travel).
  • Photography or video (usually with an outdoors angle).

Video - 1-2minute web commericials for outdoors related companies. 1-2 minute web commercials for any other "interesting-sounding" company. Short documentaries. Adventure sports. Landscape timelapse.

Photography - outdoors and travel themes. Photographic prints for display by B&Bs and commercial organisations. Stock or commissioned images (on a mostly outdoors or travel related theme) for web agencies and businesses.
